Come work with Shiny
LG and Shiny are offering a chance to train and work with Shiny Media, the UK’s top video blogging team. This opportunity will allow unique insight into how we plan, script and shoot up to 80 videos every month. The Shiny Media videos are watched by an audience of around 50,000 every week, and this internship offers you the chance to gain skills that will help you develop your career in the video media industry.
We have two 6-month internships available starting from January 2008. One for a budding video presenter and one for a video production person. The internship provides:
- The chance to be trained by top talent in video blogging and contribute to creating videos that are watched by an audience of 1,000s daily
- An all expenses paid trip to Barcelona to cover the 3GSM World Congress
- A blog to share your experiences while participating in the programme
- The brand new LG Viewty mobile phone to help you on your path to shooting video on the go
You can also tell us which videos *you* think are best by leaving comments and ranking them on YouTube.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
Presenter
Want to be the next "Gadget guru" like Susi Weaser? Think you know enough about fashion to sit on Shiny's style council?
Send us a 1 minute piece to camera of you presenting. You can talk about sports, technology or fashion but it must relate to the theme "What is style?" To see a full-time Shiny presenter in action, watch here.
Video editor
At Shiny you need to shoot, edit and upload the latest video news as slickly as possible, and sometimes it’s a race against the clock!
We’ve created a selection of raw footage to give you an idea of what you may have to work with. We've filmed some vox pops of the Shiny Team answering the question "What is style?" and you just need to edit them together into one lovely Shiny video. Here's what you need to do:
1) Download the clips here and edit them together to create a one minute feature
2) You can add in any additional footage, music, images, graphics you want (but please only content you own the rights to!)
3) Don’t forget to include the Shiny competition title slide
We’re looking for wit, verve and creativity. For more tips and inspiration, watch some of our videos here.
How to submit your video:
1) Sign up or log-in to your existing YouTube account
2) Upload your video entry to your own account first
3) Join our YouTube group: Shiny Medias LG Video Media Talent Award
4) Add your video to the group by clicking on “Add Videos” in the yellow box near the top of the page
Shiny will review all videos added to the group submissions and successful applications will be added to the awards page on YouTube and will feature here on Shiny Media’s official LG Video Media Talent Award site.
The Shiny Media Editors will be rounding up a selection of the best videos to showcase across the sites over the next three weeks and we'll be watching to see which videos get the most comments. Don't forget to tell all your friends to vote for you!

Guys I love your site, but seriously, just buy a decent shotgun mic, a boom arm and headphones for the audio operator, invest in a couple of decent lights and buy a good fluid-head tripod. This will boost your video quality 100%.
Cheers,
Andrew in Sydney

I'm an American living in the UK. Does that count?

Andrew: Audio operator? Er, another one for the list ;-) I guess this is reflective of actual conditions: attending press events, fast turn around & online compression then streaming. Thanks for the tips though!
Erik: If you have permission to live and work in the UK then that's fine. Looking forward to seeing your entry, don't forget to add it to the YouTube group for us to pick it up.

Hey,
I would have loved to post up an entry of mine but unfortunately I came across the competition details too late :(. I have personal experience of editing video and audio, and have quite enough confidence to face a camera and show what i have got. Anyways if and whenever you have another competition of such amazing end results, please do let me know.
Thanks,
Hassan Khawaja
